ZeRO is now running version 0.381. This article covers releases 0.378–0.381: weapon and armor refining, casting level selection, original Ragnarok Online effects and accepting quests directly from the quest journal.
Weapon refining up to +10
Hollegrehen in Prontera and Aragham in Morocc refine your equipped weapon using pre-renewal rules. Before confirmation, the dialogue shows the next refine level, required ore, price and success rate.
Safe limits are +7 / +6 / +5 / +4 for weapon levels 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 respectively. Beyond the safe limit, a failed attempt destroys the weapon and its inserted cards, and consumes the ore and fee.
Refine levels remain with the weapon when unequipping it, trading, mailing it, or moving it to storage or a cart. Normal armor refining is also available, as described below.
Armor refining
At the same blacksmiths, choose “Заточить броню” (Refine armor) and select an equipped, refinable headgear, armor, shield, garment or footwear item. Accessories are excluded. Review the price and risk before confirming.
Each attempt costs 1 Elunium and 2,000 zeny. Refining through +4 is safe. Success rates are 60% for +5, 40% for +6/+7, 20% for +8/+9 and 10% for +10. Failure destroys only the selected item and its cards; success preserves cards and binding.
Armor refining adds physical defense under pre-renewal rules: 0.7 DEF per refine level, rounded once after adding all equipped items' refine bonuses. One +4 item adds 3 refine DEF; one +10 item adds 7.
Select a casting level with the mouse wheel
Learning Fire Bolt level 7 does not mean you must cast it at full strength every time. Select the skill, then scroll down while choosing a target to lower its casting level. Scroll up to increase it, up to your learned level.
The cursor label shows the selected level and SP cost. Damage, healing, hit count and cast time use that level. For example, level 5 Fire Bolt fires five bolts and costs 20 SP.
Selection follows the original client's rules. Fire Bolt and Heal allow it; Fire Ball, Fire Wall and Stone Curse use their highest learned level. Scrolls retain their fixed level.
Magic, sound and interface changes
- Mage spells use original RO visual effects and sounds. Characters adopt a casting pose during long casts.
- Positional sounds are heard from your character's position. Zooming the camera no longer changes the distance to monsters or other sound sources.
- Mandragora attacks now show tentacles emerging from the ground at their target.
- Character shadows stay beneath their feet without drawing over them. Foot grounding has been corrected for different directions. Interacting with a monster through magic reveals its health bar.
The “Select a monster” targeting banners have been removed. Unlearned skills with unmet prerequisites stay hidden until their requirements are met. Learned skills remain visible.
Quests and travel
First Aid and Play Dead appear among available quests with their requirements. Select an eligible quest and press “Взять задание” (Accept quest). The journal switches to your accepted quest and opens your current map with a waypoint to the next exit or NPC. The button is disabled until the requirements are met.
First Aid guides you to the nursing instructor for a bandage, then back to Nami with the required herbs and clover. Play Dead guides you to collect a Newbie Tag and return to Bulma; its ten-minute timer starts when you accept it in the journal. Quest items and skills are still obtained from their regular NPCs. The First Aid nursing instructor's appearance has been corrected. Special Mage exam supplies, including solutions, are classified as quest items; common ingredients remain normal items.
Travel between Izlude and Alberta uses a sailor dialogue and a travel fee. Izlude's minimap now matches the actual bridges, so standing on a bridge no longer puts your marker out at sea.
Get the update
Restart your client to let the patcher download the update. Patches are available for Linux, Windows x64, Windows x86 and macOS. New players can choose a build on the download page.
