Merchants, it's your turn. At Job Lv 40 you can take the exam at the Blacksmith Guild and become a Blacksmith. They forge weapons, repair broken gear and hit pretty hard with an axe. This update also fixes party loot sharing, and the site now has a Blacksmith page.

How to become a Blacksmith

The Blacksmith Guild is in Geffen, in the same smithy where Christopher sells metals. The exam works the same way as in RO:

  1. Application. Altiregen, the guild master, accepts it from a Merchant at Job Lv 40.
  2. Trade exam. Geschupenschte in the Alberta smithy asks you ten questions. He forgives one mistake.
  3. Special order. Geschupenschte pulls out one of five orders, picked at random. Bring him the materials, he forges the order, and you deliver it to the customer: in Geffen, Morroc, Izlude, Payon or the Alberta port. Bring the customer's receipt back to Geschupenschte.
  4. Craft exam. Altiregen sends you to Mitehmaeeuh, who is right there in the guild. Five questions, one mistake allowed. Pass and you get the Blacksmith Hammer.
  5. Job change. Take the hammer to Altiregen, and you are a Blacksmith.

The reward is 5 Steel, or 30 if you are Job Lv 49. The order, the receipt and the Blacksmith Hammer go to the "Quest" tab: you can't sell or trade them. The quest log walks you through each step and tells you where to get the order materials.

Spend all your skill points before the final step, just like with the Hunter: unspent points don't carry over to the second job. Altiregen won't change your job while you have any, and the quest log reminds you how many are left. This applies to every second job.

In RO the Blacksmith Guild later moved to Einbroch, and two of the customers live in Lighthalzen and Hugel. We don't have those towns yet, so the guild stays in Geffen, where it used to be, and those customers wait in Izlude and the Alberta port. When the towns arrive, everyone will move to their proper places.

Forging

A hammer or a Mini Furnace opens the "Forging" window with everything you can make right now. The tool itself is used up, as in RO. Christopher sells hammers, furnaces and anvils.

  • Mini Furnace makes Iron, Steel, elemental stones and Star Crumb.
  • Iron Hammer forges level 1 weapons, Golden Hammer up to level 2, Oridecon Hammer up to level 3.
  • You can add an elemental stone and Star Crumbs to a weapon, up to three in total. The stone makes the weapon fire, water, earth or wind, and the stars make it stronger. Each addition lowers the chance.
  • The chance depends on DEX, LUK, Job Lv and skills. An anvil in your bag raises it. Materials are lost even on failure.
  • Success or not, everyone nearby sees it: the RO forging effect with sound plays over the Blacksmith.

A forged weapon carries your name: "Vasya's Very Strong Fire Sword". You can't put cards into it.

Combat skills

  • Hammer Fall stuns monsters around the point you strike.
  • Adrenaline Rush speeds up attacks with axes and maces, for you and your party.
  • Weapon Perfection removes the weapon size penalty.
  • Power-Thrust adds attack power for you and a little for your party. Once in a while it breaks your weapon.
  • Maximize Power always deals your weapon's maximum damage while it drains SP.

Passive skills: Weaponry Research (attack and accuracy), Hilt Binding (STR, attack and longer buffs), Skin Tempering (less fire damage) and Ore Discovery (monsters sometimes drop ore).

Weapon Repair fixes broken gear, yours or a nearby player's, in the "Weapon Repair" window. It costs ore or metal.

Unfair Trick and Greed

As in RO, you can't learn these two with skill points.

  • Unfair Trick makes Mammonite 10 % cheaper. Akki in south-east Geffen teaches it to Blacksmiths at Job Lv 30. She asks for Steel, Coal, an Iron Hammer, Detrimindexta and 500 zeny. Akki is still learning, so you'll need a few more materials than that.
  • Greed picks up every item in the 5 × 5 cells around you at once. Other players' loot and anything that won't fit stays on the ground. Goodman in south Geffen teaches it. Come to him with a heavy bag: heavy enough that an item weighing 500 no longer fits.

Blacksmith on the site

The site now has a Blacksmith page: the role, forging, the exam step by step, stats, tips and the skill tree. The world map links to it from the Geffen Blacksmith Guild.

Party loot

A bug report came in: in a party with loot set to "Random member" or "In turn", the killer still got everything. Loot was only shared with members within 14 cells, while the screen shows 40, so party members who looked "nearby" were often left out. Now, as in RO, any living party member on the same map can get the item. Experience was already shared that way.

Small things

  • A private message to someone who isn't in the game is no longer lost. It waits up to 7 days and arrives with its time when they log in. The chat tells you so: "is not in the game — they will get the message when they log in".
  • News on the site has new covers: official RO art and Linux penguins.

The client will update itself when it starts; the patch is about 3.5 MB. Without it you can't enter the game. Thanks to everyone who uses "Report a bug": the party loot fix came from your report.
